2. A sub-division of Classification, which provides a means of identifying -- using a series of structured codes: firstly, what appears to have gone wrong with the IS Service (the symptoms); secondly why the failure occurred (cause); and thirdly the component likely to be at fault. The category codes are elements within the classification data string and are essential for fault analysis purposes.
