Dr Haji Mohd Rasid Hussin is currently a Professor in Risk Management (First Professor in Risk Management in Malaysia) and Full-Time Lecturer at the College of Business (COB), Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) - "The Eminent Management University" at Sintok, Kedah Darul Aman, Malaysia. UUM is currently the Leading University / Higher Education Provider (HEP) for Risk Management and Insurance Education in Malaysia. Mohd Rasid Hussin has an employment record of about 40 years service (University and Industry) since 1974. He obtained a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Business Administration in 1984 from Indiana State University (ISU), USA and a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Risk Management and Insurance in 1986 from Golden Gate University (GGU), USA. In addition, he obtained his Doctoral Degree, PhD in Risk Management in 1996 from Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) which is internationally renowned for Risk Management Education in the UK and Europe.



To his credit, Professor Dr Haji Mohd Rasid Hussin is the First Person in ASIA (ASEAN included) to have obtained two (2) postgraduate degrees specifically in Risk Management; an MSc in Risk Management and Insurance, and also a PhD in Risk Management, an increasingly important area of specialization which is of special interest to all businesses and industries worldwide today. His doctoral thesis entitled "An examination of responses to risk in ASEAN Industry and Commerce" (the first study of its kind in Malaysia) which incorporated a regional survey on ASEAN major corporations, is in fact, a highly useful source of reference for companies and organizations in Malaysian and overseas to gain further insight into the Risk Management practices of major corporations in the ASEAN Industry and Commerce.

His outstanding achievement include the following:-

  1. First Person in ASIA (ASEAN included) to have obtained two (2) postgraduate degrees specifically in Risk Management; a PhD in Risk Management and MSc in Risk Management & Insurance;
  2. First Person in Malaysia as Professor in Risk Management and Insurance;

  4. President of the International Institute of Risk Management and Crisis Strategies (IIRMACS);
  5. President of the World Muslims Risk Management Think-Tank Network (WMRMTTN);
  6. President of the Malaysia Muslims Risk Management Think-Tank Network (MMRMTTN);
  7. President of the Malaysian Risk Management Think-Tank Network (MRMTTN);
  8. President of the Malaysian Group of Scholars and Thinkers on Risk Management (MGSTRiM);
  9. One of the Key Contributors (Among World Experts) to ISO-31000:2009 (World's First Risk Management Standard), acknowledged with Global Recognition as Key Representative of Malaysia and Asia by the World's Risk Management Community and Network, and also by the Global Institute for Risk Management Standards (G31000) based in Paris, France during the First International Risk Management Standard (ISO-31000:2009) Conference 2012 organized by the Global Institute for Risk Management Standards (G31000) on 22 - 23 May 2012 in Paris, France.
  10. Special Advisor on Crisis and Risk Management to the Honorable Minister in the Prime Minister Department, Malaysia and National Security Council (NSC), Prime Minister Department of Malaysia during the United Nations Global Platform on Disaster Risk Reduction (GPDRR) and World Reconstruction Conference (WRC) organized by the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR) on 8 - 13 May 2011 at the United Nations (UN), Geneva, Switzerland and also during the ASIAN Ministerial Conference (AMC) on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) on 23 - 25 October 2012 at Yogyakarta, Indonesia;
  11. Malaysian Representative and Head of Delegation for ISO-31000:2009 (World's First Risk Management Standard) Meetings nominated by the Government of Malaysia (through the Standards Malaysia (SM), Ministry of Science Technology and Innocation (MOSTI) and SIRIM Berhad Malaysia;

  20. Judging Panel Member for both the Risk Manager of the Year Award (RMA) and Crisis Manager of the Year Award (CMA) organized by the Malaysian Association of Risk and Insurance Management (MARIM), the Leading Association on Risk Management and Insurance in Malaysia;
