Notes (1): There is a need to know how well the organization is doing in the operational planning and control level of its business continuity effort so that the Business Continuity Management System (BCMS) can be steered to the desired direction.

Notes (2): Setting BC objective allows organization to know what it wants to achieve and exactly, how close or how far, the organization is actually achieving it.

Notes (3): The BC objective will assist in answering the management's concern on whether its investment in business continuity make sense.

Notes (4): At strategic level, the BC objectives is for the entire Business Continuity Management System (BCMS). At tactical level, it is the RTO, RPO, MBCO and Testing and Exercising objectives. For a larger size organization with complexity in its processes, the operational level BC objective can be added to the business unit level.

Notes (5): Set BC objectives that can be measured. For example, "Comply with the Ministry of Manpower's Workplace Safety and Heath (WSH) Act by achieving bizSAFE level 3 certification by December 31 using ISO22301 methodology", "Improve the recovery time by 24 hours of issuing payroll while not incurring extra cost."

Notes (1) : An objective can be strategic, tactical or operational.

Notes (2) : Objectives can relate to different disciplines (such as financial, health and safety, and environment goals) and can apply at different levels [such as strategic, organization-wide, project, product and process.

Notes (3) : An objective can be expressed in other ways, e.g. as an intended outcome, a purpose, an operational criterion, as a societal security objective or by the use of other words with similar meaning (e.g. aim, goal, or target).

Notes (4) : In the context of societal security management system standards, societal security objectives are set by the organization, consistent with the societal security policy, to achieve specific results.
