News Conference
1. An event announcing a newsworthy decision, report or activity to the news media in a forum where reporters are invited to receive information directly from the organization’s spokesperson and ask questions.
Notes (1): A news conference is more expensive, requires more organization and takes up more of the reporters’ time than sending out a news release. Therefore, news conferences are only held for major announcements. Notes (2): A short information session designed for the media, during which one or more designated spokespersons bring journalists up to date on the development of a situation and answer their questions.
