1. Neuraminidase (NA) is an important surface structure protein of an influenza virus particle, which enables the release of the virus from the host cell to infect new cells within the respiratory tract. Used to identify and label subtypes and strains of influenza viruses.

2. An enzyme that forms a mushroom-shaped projecttion on the surface of an influenza virus particle. The enzyme assists in the release of newly formed virus particles from the surface of an infected cell.
