Introduction to OR BOK
The BCM Institute published the "Operational Resilience Body of Knowledge" (OR BOK) in June 2022 to document and standardize generally accepted operational resilience definitions and practices.
The OR Body of Knowledge or ORBoK is an all-inclusive term that describes the sum of knowledge within the operational resilience and business continuity management profession. Since it is usually not possible to put the entire body of knowledge of even a discipline, such as operational resilience (OR), or operational resilience audit (ORA) into a single document, there is a need for a Guide to the OR Body of Knowledge. This Guide will seek to identify and describe that subset of the body of knowledge that is generally accepted, even though the professionals must be knowledgeable not only in OR Audit or OR, but also, of course, in other related disciplines. With effect from Jan 2016, Body of Knowledge Zero "0" will not be part of the BCM BoK as the terms in BoK 0 are now re-categorised into BoK 1 to 7, respectively.
Content
This guide contains the three primary Operational Resilience Body of Knowledge (OR BoK) needed for OR and designated professionals. The section below contains the contents table for BCM Institute's Operational Resilience - Body of Knowledge. For example, OR BoK P1: Plan Phase defines the project management definitions and knowledge about Operational Resilience. The rest of the OR Bok is self-explanatory.
OR BoK Level | |||
---|---|---|---|

2. OR BoK 2: Implement | |||
3. OR BoK 3: Sustain | |||
2. OR BoK P2: Implement | |||
3. OR BoK P3: Sustain |
- Note: ORBoK 0 is not part of the body of knowledge as it provides the fundamentals of operational resilience (OR) or operational resilience audit (ORA).
Competency Level
Each BoK is further divided into three level of competency. They are the foundation (leading to "Planner" certification), intermediate (leading to "Specialist" certification) and advanced (leading to "Expert" certification). The only exception is the OR Audit course, which starts from intermediate (leading to "OR Audit Specialist" certification) and advanced (leading to "OR Audit Expert" certification).
