1. A disaster recovery plan (DR Plan) is a clearly defined and documented plan that describes how an organization is to deal with potential IT disasters.

2. A clearly defined and documented plan which recovers IT and telecommunications capabilities when a Disaster does occur. Typically it covers key personnel, resources, services and actions required to be carried out to ensure that IT systems for Critical business functions can continue within planned levels of Disruption. For an Organization which relies heavily on IT, the DR Plan is an integral part of its Business Continuity Plan (BC Plan).

3. The document that defines the resources, actions, tasks and data required to manage the business recovery process in the event of a business interruption. The plan is designed to assist in restoring the business process within the stated Disaster recovery goals.
