Cold Site
1. The Cold Site is a fully constructed data centre or business environment minus the computer hardware. It is an environment in which a new facility can be built from scratch.
 Similar Terms: Cold backup Site, Commercial Cold Site, Shell Site. Related Terms: Alternate Site, Hot Site, Warm Site, Mobile Site. Note: The Cold Site facility for data centre recovery has raised flooring, chilled water, telecommunications for voice and data, electrical power, air conditioning, and environmental systems. The cold site facilities for recovery of business environment have similar pre-arranged facilities such as facsimile machines and telecommunication lines.

2. A site (data centre/ work area) equipped with appropriate environmental conditioning, electrical connectivity, communications access, configurable space and access to accommodate the installation and operation of equipment by key employees required to resume business operations.

3. An alternate facility that already has in place the environmental infrastructure required to recover critical business functions or information systems, but does not have any pre-installed computer hardware, telecommunications equipment, communication lines, etc. These must be provisioned at time of disaster.
