1. Influenza Type A is a highly contagious, febrile, acute respiratory infection of the nose, throat, bronchial tubes and lungs.

Notes: Influenza Type A:

  • Is caused by a category of the influenza virus that is characterized by specific internal proteins and further sub-grouped according to variations in two surface proteins: Hemaggluttinin (HA) and Neuraminidase (NA).
  • Can be responsible for severe and potentially fatal clinical illness of both animals and humans.
  • Caused the pandemic influenza infections of the 20th century.
