1. An off-site is a secondary location that is independent of the main site that has the capabilities to perform certain functions. The level of capability of the secondary location is dependent on the availability of resources that the organisation has.
Note (1): Off-site is used interchangeably with Remote Site.

2. An off-site allows organisations to perform backups (and restores) independently from the main site and be prepared to function on its own.
