1. Personally identifiable information refers to any information that can discern an individual based on his unique characteristics.

PII should be accessed only on a strict need-to-know basis and handled and stored with care. PII is information that can be used to uniquely identify, contact, or locate a single person.

4. Simply put, personally identifiable information (PII) is any data that has the potential to identify a specific person. Any information that could be used to distinguish one person from another qualifies as personally identifiable information, as does any information that could be used to void the anonymity of data.
