1. Antigenic Drift is a change of the hemagglutinin and/or the neuraminidase protein on the surface of a particular strain of the influenza virus due to spontaneous mutations (called genetic plasticity). It occurs on an ongoing basis in both Influenza Type A and Influenza Type B strains and necessitates ongoing changes in the composition of influenza vaccines.
